The vertebrate retina is a light sensitive tissue lining the inner surface of the eye. The optics of the eye create an image of the visual world on the retina, which serves much the same function as the film in a camera. Once Upon A Skirt

Once upon a Winters eve in late December of 2010, just in time to start the forthcoming year, A cute little boutique owner, heard rumors of an enchanted land where whimsical little skirts grew.

With her scarf tucked tight to ward off the chill she set out to find this magical land where Sofistafunk Skirts were born.

On her arrival she was elated to find these little bottom frocks to be Sofistacated yet funky, some were identical, while others looked similar to their sisters, and as the little skirt seeker ventured deeper into the forest, she found that there were plenty of one-of-a-kinds as well and this made her smile.

The boutique owner was so elated that she had found this magical place that she knew instantly she must bring some of her findings back to her little shop to live and play with the other garments until some special lady came in to adopt them and wear them into the world and help make it pretty.

As you may or may not have heard, on Sunday September 12th, we were the requested guest designer for an Art Opening at the prestigious Mark Gallery in Englewood, NJ. The Artists showing were Melody Postma: melodypostma.com, Jeff Schaller: http://www.jeffschaller.com and Robert Mars: http://www.robertmars.com, do check them out. The show was hosted by Actress Anna Maria Horsford to the sounds of Tru Vibes as they filled the air with melodies so aromatic you could almost taste them

The guests appeared relaxed as they sipped, nibbled and welcomed the wall and floor visuals offered to them. The models, they were as casual, as funky and as Uninhibited as any Sofistafunk model should be.

At the end of the event we were asked for an encore, I thought, encore? does that happen in the world of fashion, so on November 20th at 4pm, do join us for "Home for the Holidays" the encore, we'll be showing fashions fit for all your Holiday go-to's, hope to see you there.

Fabrics, Clothing and Fashion Oh My!

Fashion is what Fashion does.
Fabrics are harmless, it is what designers construct or use it for that brings life. Once constructed, Clothing too are harmless, they are helpless hostages of the humans or animals that use them for good or evil. "Clothes are not fashion", the Styling of those lifelessss articles of cotton, silk, leather etc. is what brings hope to the eye of the beholder, God Bless Sir Phillip Bloch, June Ambrose, Rachel Zoe and the countless other creative minds, that control our retinas. It's all in the styling...

It's shipping day, Yeahhh!!! Well we did it, all done and ready to ship as I look at all the finished costumes, just before we pack them in the shipping boxes, I think to my self hummmm-cute, Mary could have even liked this silvery gray color, and if she did design these garments for their wedding she would have wanted her and her sweetie to coordinate, and they do, anyway with all those dust storms about, could it be that white would have been gray anyway???

We've enjoyed our part in the making of this well told and funny rendition of Mary and Joseph's Love Story.

again we thank the producers, Ms. Horsford and the rest of the cast for allowing us to use our creative freedom for The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.

"The Greatest Love Story Ever Told"

Earlier this month we were asked to design some of the costumes for the new stage play "The Greatest Love Story Ever Told"
The productions director, Anna Maria Horsford showed us the DVD of the original production and said "child use your imagination", and that we did.

The way the story is told by Marcus, (David Ramsey) Dureen's (Tatyana Ali) fiancee as he creatively teaches the Sunday School children the story of Mary and Joseph, also gave us the freedom to be a little more creative in design and color choices since he didn't seem quite sure of all of the facts.

We hoped not to offend any one of a particular religion or faith and since none of us were there anyway, we figured, just go for it-use another color. Cheshire and I didn't want to do Mary's Wedding costume in the standard white and blue as we've always seen so we chose a pale gray silk and decorated it with turquoise and alabaster stones accented with swarovski and rock crystals all set amidst swirls of gold sutache.

Mary might have even found her stones laying about on the ground as she and her Mom sought to design her dress.

For Joseph we chose a turquoise crinkled fabric accented by gold to coordinate with the stones on his bethrodeled.

*Turquoise
Believed to relieve stress and aid in relaxing the mind, Turquoise history dates back to 6000BC when ancient Egyptians used it.
*Alabaster
Alabaster at that time was said to represent purity, virtue, and spiritual idealism with their beautiful marbleized design, amongst other items it was used to design and make flasks to hold perfumed oils.

Purity and Fidelity
In biblical times the color blue was considered to represent purity and fidelity, we used blue thread in all the hand stitching on both wedding costumes as well as on the swaddling bands.

*Swaddling Bands

While the groom built their new home, the bride also made preparations, including the embroidery of the swaddling bands with which the couple's hands would be wrapped under the wedding canopy. Later these bands would also be used to secure blankets or swaddling clothes around the couple's infant children. The symbols on the bands often indicated family history.
Mary was from the tribe of Judah, so she may have used symbols common to that lineage such as a lion, a lamb, or a tree of life.
As a descendant of David, she was also entitled to use the royal colors of *blue and white. The symbolic significance of swaddling bands was so important that the embroidery on each side of the swaddling bands had to match exactly, with "right" and "wrong" sides indistinguishable. This symbolized the complete harmony of inner and outward life.

On Wednesday evening May 6th, 2007, We hosted "Funking After Forty".
The ladies took to the catwalk, (ramp) lol
The show opened with a one woman fashionable nod to the Flower DrumSong sound track "I enjoy being a girl".
Next song, Kool and the Gang's "Ladies Night", we bought our June ad to life with 3 ladies and one little miss (which by the way was only 4, not quite 40 yet) but needed to complete the look.
Then it was showtime and in age order: the 40's took to the catwalk to Kool and the Gang's "She's a bad mama jamma" and Rick James "Brick House".
The 50's to Ms. Patti Labelle's, "Lady Marmalade" and N.E.R.D's She Wants To Move.
The 60's to Rick James, "Super Freak" and Patty Labelle's "Shake your Groove Thing".
Last but surely not least, our very own Mrs. 76 herself to the the Pussycat Dolls "Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me".
The Grandest Finale, a courtyard, "Cha Cha Slide" by D J Casper
It was Fantastic!!!!!!!!
The show was free, open to the public and bought out over 150 guests from the surrounding areas, NY and South Jersey, it was held right out side in our front courtyard.
A spectacular prelude to the Sofistafunk and Transfigure new joint venture "Get Fit to Get Fitted Program".
